Kai is so freaking charming and dreamy… ugh if I was Isabella I would’ve fallen in love with him instantly! I loved how I could understand so many of his thought processes and feelings and relate to them as well! Isabella is everything he shouldn't want, but with every look and every touch, he's tempted to break all his rules . I can't not talk about the phenomenal world building for this entire series and the next book in the series. she was so funny and real - like who hasn’t felt like a directionless orb at one point or another in their adulthood, let’s be real.

Sometimes the expressions the author uses seem very unusual, not inappropriate, but different from what I have encountered in my many years of reading, for example ‘life quilted with neat squares and perfectly delineated lines’ (57) and ‘a growing Civil War between my logic and my emotions’ (59). Her stories range from lighthearted to dark, but they all have HEAs with plenty of banter and swoon sprinkled in. He was for sure a good male hero and I am not afraid to say that he was better even than the guys from the Twister series. In the absolutely packed Act II, the dark fantasy resumes and the Sandman expands into the French Revolution, ancient Rome, 19th-century San Francisco, eighth-century Baghdad, and beyond. I loved the way they tried to resist, the anguish of "we can't let this happen" and then finally giving up and being together, it was everything to me.As I previously stated, Kai and Isa are one of the least problematic couples, so it made sense for things to be sorted out in a healthy way, but it just felt too perfect, too clean, too flawless. You really don't understand how beautifully supportive they are of each other despite all the tension they have from being total opposites (also no miscommunication for all my fellow readers who hate petty conflicts)! Kai is so freaking wholesome, with his nerdy hobbies and cavalier restraint from breaking self imposed moral rules. To my pleasant surprise I enjoyed reading this story and have been left with a curiosity about the stories behind the minor characters which I met in this read.

then we have her with her cute adorable quirkiness and lil pet snake,,,, my love for them is already through the roof! And on the flip side of that, Isabella shows Kai that there’s so much more to life than work and translating books into Latin for fun.My favorite part about this book was the sheer amount of swoon-worthy quotes included and how amazing the male MC was.

However maybe it just isn’t the right time for me to have read this but it honestly felt slow to me and I was bored for pretty much all of it. The way I related to both Kai and Isabella in so many different ways made me fall in love with both of them even more! Her books have been sold to over two dozen foreign publishers for translation and featured in outlets such as NPR, Cosmopolitan, Financial Times, and Glamour UK. Their worlds are different and their personalities also, but because of this, the book seems down to earth and not some fiction that will never happen in real life.
