About this deal
In Scotland the melting ice caps halt the Gulf Stream effect which means it is frequently hit by brutal snow and ice storms.
After a slightly rocky introduction, Brodie finds that he gets on quite well with police pathologist Dr Sita Roy, and both are relieved when their eVTOL (electric helicopter) sets them down safely during an ice storm, in the blacked-out village of Kinlochleven. But evidence uncovered during his autopsy places the lives of both Brodie and Roy in extreme jeopardy.
Das Buch (englische Ausgabe) ist gut zu lesen, kann aber meiner Einschätzung nach nicht mit den Büchern der Enzo Files oder der China Thriller mithalten. Whilst parts of the world are suffering extreme heat, prompting the migration of millions of people from Africa and Asia to Europe, great swathes of Scotland are now under water due to rising sea levels caused by the melting of the Greenland ice sheets and the country now has the climate of northern Norway. Then, the climbing over of them and the crawling under, all while painstakingly creating a distinctive, remarkably unremarkable, world. The dead man is investigative reporter, George Younger who has been missing for three months after going missing on a supposed walking holiday. Equally credible is the immensely sobering climate change scenario and the political impact this could have.
He has a business purpose and a personal one as the individual who discovered the body is his estranged daughter, Addie. I must have purchased this without reading the 'blurb', because its setting in the future took me completely by surprise.
